A roommate and I just began renting an apartment. We’ve been here about 3 weeks so far, and noticed a lot wrong with it. We were shown a different apartment, since the actual model wasn’t available. It looked nice, so we gave our 0 holding fee, and filled out the apps. She called us back a few days later.. and showed us the apartment. It was very different.. ‘some’ of the issues include, a bright orange spot 2′x2′ on the ‘new’ carpet, shower head didn’t work, smoke alarm goes off whenever we turn on the hot water, or open the bathroom door, washer wasn’t mounted down to the cabinet [I actually cut myself from it] cupboards weren’t cork boarded, kitchen sink leaked, and the wood underneath was eaten through, and a welted piece of wood was stuck over it, [They tightened the faucet, 'fixing' the leak, but they say they can't do anything other than put more wood down for the hole.. ] the bathroom sink leaks, and there is mold underneath.. it’s just one thing after another. I really want to break my lease.. and find a new apartment, but I signed an 11 month lease.. and the fee would be 00 to buy out of it, and I can’t afford that. The rent is 0/mo, and is located in Spokane, WA. I looked up WA rental laws, and they’re similar to most.

I informed them of issues, and they pretty much said, ‘well, we can’t really fix that.’ or.. ‘every apartment has issues,’ or ‘you were informed of that before moving in’ which we weren’t..

What would you suggest?
Thank you for reading, and for any help. =P

Leaky bathroom faucet?

I need to know how to disassemble a bathtub shower valve so I can replace the seat. It is a single hot water valve. There is a screw in the middle of the handle, which didn’t seem to allow anything to detach. What do I need to do to dissasemble the faucet?

How do I get rid of the smell from my hot water faucet in the bathroom?

My hot water faucet in the bathroom really smells when it is turned on. Only the hot water though not the cold. Originally, I thought it was the drain. I have done everything I can think of. Vinegar, bleach etc. but it isn’t going away and I noticed it only smells when the hot water gets turned on….STRANGE!!!

How do you stop a dripping washerless peerless bathroom sink faucet?

I have taken the handle off, and made sure the base is as tight as it can get, but when I turn the water back on, it still drips. (this is the hot water side.) Any ideas short of replacing the faucet will help.

i can’t seem to unscrew that white plastic ring, it was really tight.

so what should i do now? should i hire a professional?
i think that the leaking is from the hot water faucet. you can see all the rusty iron around that circle.

should i replace the whole thing?

What cause knocking noise when I turn on my faucet (cold & hot) in the 2nd floor master bathroom?

The noise is inside the first floor wall. The noise will continue for a few seconds after I turn off the faucet. The noise is about one knock per second and will fade away and get longer between knocks after I turn off the faucet. I’ve been researching on the internet to determine the cause of the noise and it seems that it’s caused by the hot water line (contraction) but it also makes noise when I turn on the cold water as well. If I just ignore it, will it cause the pipe to crack? If I have to fix it, how much will it cost me approximately (probably have tear the wall)? We just bought this house two months ago.

Additional info: I checked my basement, and I could feel the vibration on the drainage pipe when the knocking noise happened. It seems that something is hitting the drainage pipe. The noise will continue when I’m using the faucet as well (not only when I turn on and off) and it comes and goes but if I turn it on long enough, most of the time the noise will come.

Why won't the cold water run (single lever bathroom sink faucet)?

The bathroom sink faucet was just replaced. the cold water runs as a tiny trickle, the hot water runs fine. The valves have been turned to allow water to flow. What gives?

The faucet has only one lever which rotates to cold/hot water to run.
If someone could find a site with pics, that would be helpful. I have no idea what the bushing is.

Did I overpay for this faucet replacement?

Last week I had a huge leak of hot water out of my bathroom faucet, like the faucet was open 100% while the handle was DOWN. So I turned off the house water and tried to remove the cap thinking I could just replace the seals. 3 hours later and the sink was wrecked and the valves below also were leaking. I just couldn’t get it open, possibly due to calcium deposits.

Anyway so I had to call a plumber and this is what he did:
1 – replace old faucet with a new Moen
2 – new valves
3 – cut out old brass pipes and replace with plastic all the way back to the wall

All together this cost me 5, is that way too much? I had no choice since I needed to turn the water back on for my house.

Does anyone know why water trickles out of my cold water bathroom faucet?

The hot water comes out fine. However, when I turn on the cold water, water trickles out. If I slightly open the cold water faucet, it appears to be fine. The problem arises when I open it fully. I also hear a noise coming from the pipes when I open it fully. All other faucets in the house appear to be working fine.
