Those bumps are Oxidation of the metal. You can smooth the bumps with a Brillo pad, but the molecular structure of the metal, itself, has been altered now, and you will probably have discoloration no matter what you do. The faucet has started to deteriorate.

If the discoloration doesn’t bother you, just smooth the bumps with a wet Brillo pad. The bumps won’t hurt you…they’re just a cosmetic defect at this point. If scrubbing with Brillo doesn’t improve the appearance enough, the only real solution is to replace the faucet with a new one.

You can help prevent these bumps in the future by keeping the faucet relatively clean. These bumps are accelerated by high or low PH residue sitting on the faucet for extended periods of time.

I’m willing to bet that the previous owners of your house did not clean that faucet very often. Chances are the faucet was dirty for at least a year…and that they cleaned it right before putting the house up for sale.

Vinegar maybe? it could work. Some kind of acid. Or an abrasive, like Mr.Clean Magic Erasers
