I’m remodeling my bathroom by gutting everything down to the studs, and replacing the flooring, bathtub, and plumbing. How high (off the floor) do plumbers normally mount the main control valve for the bathtub/shower? Also, how high should the bathtub spout and shower head be?

Just wondering if you guy’s can throw out some links or some info on some faucet and shower head water filter units that attach to the shower and replace the shower head and use filtration types like reverse osmosis and micro levels of 1. I’ll be using one for my kitchen sink, my bathroom sink, and my shower head. I want to be able to easily mount them to the faucets and filter out parasites and micro-organisms.
THANKS!
My city or portion of town has been on a boil alert for like ever. It’s highly contaminated water. Plus worms eggs are in tap water. Unless your city has a bad ass top of the line state of the art water treatment plant. In my part of town, I believe the treatment plant is hella low end. So I will need filters on all water sources that filter at a 1 micro level with reverse osmosis preferably. It’s an apartment, so I can’t really do the house filter, I don’t think. Plus I don’t want to spend much money. I don’t mind buying tons of water at the store but it would be awesome to get filters on all my water sources since I use a nasal rinse in the shower with contaminated water it’s not good. Plus I have allergies and I get a stuffed up nose after using tap water. When I use distilled water, my nose is clear as a whistle.

I just moved back home from college, and I’m trying to move into my brother’s old room. There’s a bathroom inside that bedroom, and I’m trying to remodel it without actually having to install new sink and toilet and stuff. The reason I do not want to do this is because I am a female and I have no plumbing experience, and my parents have not and refuse to take care of that bathroom. My dad is adamant in not repairing the bathroom, because he says the remodeling that is needed is beyond superficial, but the bathroom is just in unacceptable condition, and I refuse to use it in that way. So I’m pretty much on my own here, and I’m trying to do the best I can, given the situation. The sink inside that bathroom is from circa 1958, and while the actual sink is unscathed, the faucet is rotten and leaking (because it’s all eaten up and so are the keys, for lack of a better word–sorry, I don’t know all the technical terms here). The faucet needs to be replaced, and I have gone to Lowe’s, Home Depot, you name it. They’ve told me that I have to make a special order for those faucets. But they’re telling me it costs upwards of 6 to do that. Where could I find the faucet for this type of sink? I’ve provided a link to a picture of what the sink looks like below, except the one I have is green, but basically the faucet is mounted on the sink in the exact same way. Help would be appreciated!

Oh, and the faucets that Home Depot and Lowe’s say have to be specially ordered aren’t even the ones I need. They’re wall mounted, but they swear that those faucets should work. Looking at the pictures though, it seems the faucets are too big for the holes of the sink.
That seems like a good idea Paul! I will definitely see about trying that!
Oh, I just found the name for this kind of fixture…it’s called a shelf back faucet, not wall mounted.

My bathroom faucet is mounted on a wooden platform. For about a year, the wooden platform usually gets wet whenever I brush my teeth. Eventually, the wood began to rot and I see big holes in the wooden platroom and I saw several tiny light brown worms and two big brown ones. What type of worms are these- I don’t think they are termites because termites are white. What type of worms eat rotten wood?

I feel like this is a stupid question, but I need a shower head for a bathroom that does not have a shower. I thought there were ones you could screw onto the faucet and it had a cord and a mount, but I can’t seem to find one that looks like it will screw into a faucet. Can this be done? What kind of shower head do I need?

I had my bathroom painted gold. The other colors are white (tub, toilet, frames, cabinets, sinks, ceiling) & chrome (faucets, handles, shower rings & pole, wall mounted holders, etc).
What colors are your bathroom?
Does anybody else have a gold bathroom?

I have a shower and faucet setup in my bathroom. The Hot/Cold water is controlled by one lever which is mounted on a circular plate. Upon the circular plate is also a smaller lever for diverting the water from the faucet to the shower so the faucet does not have anything on it, its just a faucet. Recently a problem arose when the lever to turn the shower on was thrown the faucet would still be releasing water and water would come out of the shower but there would be no pressure. So what has happened is the water is half coming out of the faucet and half coming out of the shower head. We called in a plumber and he claims that its absolutely necessary for me to find the same exact shower and faucet set so this problem can be repaired is that correct? To me it seems like any similar setup should be able to work. To make matters worse I am not able to locate the same exact shower and faucet set even while I have the item number from the store I purchased it from.

Ok, the set looks almost exactly like this but instead of the little knob on the faucet you pull up to get the water from the faucet to the shower its a little lever which is on the circular plate.
Thanks for the help so far…here are actual pictures of the shower and faucet.

A roommate and I just began renting an apartment. We’ve been here about 3 weeks so far, and noticed a lot wrong with it. We were shown a different apartment, since the actual model wasn’t available. It looked nice, so we gave our 0 holding fee, and filled out the apps. She called us back a few days later.. and showed us the apartment. It was very different.. ‘some’ of the issues include, a bright orange spot 2′x2′ on the ‘new’ carpet, shower head didn’t work, smoke alarm goes off whenever we turn on the hot water, or open the bathroom door, washer wasn’t mounted down to the cabinet [I actually cut myself from it] cupboards weren’t cork boarded, kitchen sink leaked, and the wood underneath was eaten through, and a welted piece of wood was stuck over it, [They tightened the faucet, 'fixing' the leak, but they say they can't do anything other than put more wood down for the hole.. ] the bathroom sink leaks, and there is mold underneath.. it’s just one thing after another. I really want to break my lease.. and find a new apartment, but I signed an 11 month lease.. and the fee would be 00 to buy out of it, and I can’t afford that. The rent is 0/mo, and is located in Spokane, WA. I looked up WA rental laws, and they’re similar to most.
I informed them of issues, and they pretty much said, ‘well, we can’t really fix that.’ or.. ‘every apartment has issues,’ or ‘you were informed of that before moving in’ which we weren’t..
What would you suggest?
Thank you for reading, and for any help. =P

This is for our drinking water/household plumping system:
I have 1HP 220v surface mount jacuzzi brand jet pump (model S1CY-S) that pumps from a cistern (cistern bottom is about 8+ feet below the height of the pump). The pump needs to pump up 15′ to reach the first floor and another 10′ to reach the 2nd floor.
House has 2 full bathrooms (but with showers only), washer, dishwasher (not used often) – all sinks/faucets are fairly low/efficient water users…
The pump ran dry on 4 occasions overnight over the course of the last year or so… had to replace bent/melted pipes each time. (ran w/out water for 8-10 hours each time) as we never used to have a shutoff float-valve switch. We now have the auto-shutoff when the cistern runs dry.
The pump now seems a lot louder than it used to be and runs more often. I think our pressure/water storage tank is about 50 gallons.
Questions:
Should I look into replacing the impeller? Should I inspect them first? how do I do so?
Should I just replace the entire pump? It is a jacuzzi jet pump and is 1HP and runs on 220 right now. We live in an area where electricity is VERY costly and for a year I haven’t been able to figure out why our electrical bill is so high. I’d love to go smaller to save on electrical, but don’t want to affect water pressure in the house – I like nice strong pressure.
Is there such thing as a high efficiency pump I could buy to help with electrical costs?
thoughts?
Thanks!
it is in fact a "J-Class" pump and not a "Jacuzzi" pump like I stated
A Checkvalve is installed. The question I am asking (per the title) is should I replace the pump? is it using extra electricity due to the # of times it was running w/out water and overheating? Is it now using more electricity than originally designed for?
I just found an impeller replacement kit which includes soup to nuts a bunch of parts – but the cost is before shipping… For a few more bucks I would like to get a whole new setup. So can someone tell me if a 1/2 HP or 3/4 HP will work with my house setup and will it save me on my electrical costs?
Can someone reccomend a pump? Again – our electrical costs here are 4x the US national average to efficiency is key! Do they make quiet ones? We don’t like that we hear the existing one… but then again it could be due to the damage that we hear it
Current pump draw:
Volts: 115/230
Amps: 10.8/5.4
SF Amps: 14.4 /7.2 (not sure what this means)
